Well after dabbling for six months with Simple PHP blog, last week I installed Serendipity, a much more professional blogging system.
Things I like about Serendipity:
- professional software, very stable, no crashes or blank pages
- it can use the Postgresql database as a back-end which I already use for other applications
- many, many plugins: karma, comments, hitmap, statistics, spamblocks, IPv6 check, etc ...
- customized my very own "look & feel", based on the bulletproof style sheet, nice!
- special simplified styles for iPad and iPhone users, very cool!
Things I like less about Serendipity:
- minimal documentation, installing some plugins was a bit of a struggle
- some plugins are written for the Sqlite database and need (some) reworking for Postgresql
Overall I am very pleased. Every aspect of this blog is styled to my precise liking. The new banner image is meant to suggest the "larger picture". Which is exactly my aim writing this blog. So stay tuned! All counters and karma are reset as of September 1st 2012, the official launching date of my new blog, version 1.0.
